Ways to work

From starting point to result

The format is defined by the business task

Sometimes the next growth opportunity still needs to be found. Sometimes there is an idea that needs a viable model. Sometimes the direction is clear and the company needs a leader to organise execution.

Find the next growth opportunity

I go deep into the existing business, its strengths, constraints, market and accumulated capabilities. I look for new products, adjacent markets, industries, customer groups, regions and partnership models.

  • credible directions
  • potential assessment
  • economics
  • resources
  • execution complexity

Turn an idea into a business

I define the product, customer, problem, value proposition, first product format, economics, resources and a way to test key assumptions before significant investment.

  • product
  • target audience
  • economics
  • go-to-market channels
  • demand validation

Launch a new direction

I join as an external business development lead and organise execution through an agreed result.

  • commercial model
  • launch plan
  • team and partners
  • sales channels
  • first customers
  • production or operating model

Enter a new market

I define the target segments, demand and competitive landscape, shape the offer for the new market and build the market-entry route.

  • new industry
  • region or country
  • new customer type
  • partners and channels
  • localisation

Commercialise a technology

For technology, engineering and manufacturing companies. The task is to take a strong development through to real industrial use.

  • use case
  • technical sponsor
  • economic impact
  • business case
  • pilots and field trials
  • qualification and certification
  • contracting

External Business Development Director

I work regularly inside the company’s management structure, directly with the owner or CEO, lead selected directions and take responsibility for a defined part of business development.

  • without a permanent executive position
  • ongoing management involvement
  • key negotiations
  • task-specific team
  • agreed result
Model

A team built around the task

I start with the company’s existing resources

I work with the company’s existing commercial, production, engineering, finance and marketing teams. Where capabilities are missing, I bring in external specialists and partners for the specific task.

How the engagement is structured

We start with the task, starting point and target result. Then we define my level of involvement, the team and the commercial model: a standalone project, ongoing support or a long-term external leadership role.

The engagement is built around a specific business task

I do not sell consulting hours. The commercial model depends on the project and can include a fixed project fee, monthly retainer, a result-linked component or a combination.

At the start we define what must change in the business as a result of our work. That becomes the basis of the project model.

Next step

Describe the task in a few sentences

The first meeting is usually enough to understand what kind of engagement makes sense, and whether one is needed at all.
